Brevard County is full of opportunities to run, walk and enjoy the outdoors for exercise. Here are some of our favorite places for a run or walk.
Wickham Park — Melbourne
Miles and miles of off-road trails. Great for running, walking and bike riding. There is also a 1.25 mile loop around the park on asphalt and a 5K course throughout the park. Keep your eyes open for gopher tortoises, squirrels, and plenty of birds along the way. From US1, turn onto Parkway Road heading towards Wickham Road. The Park will be on the right approximately 1 mile from US1.
South Tropical Trail — Merritt Island
Beautiful scenic view of the Banana and Indian Rivers. Asphalt surface with lots of speed bumps to slow traffic. 5 miles out to Pineda Causeway and back for a 10 mile course. One of our personal favorites — join us Sunday mornings at 6:30 AM for our group run here, with water available at the 3 and 5 mile marks. From Eau Gallie Causeway, turn left on South Patrick Drive. Turn left on South Tropical Trail. Parking immediately on the left at Oars and Paddles Park.
Brevard Zoo Linear Trail — Viera
A 3.1-mile multi-use trail running east from the Brevard Zoo along I-95, through wetlands and oak hammocks, under the Pineda Overpass, ending at Turtle Mound. The trail features paved asphalt and elevated composite boardwalk sections. Free to access and open during regular Zoo hours. Access points at the Brevard Zoo parking lot, Pineda Causeway, or Turtle Mound. Head to the Brevard Zoo at 8225 N Wickham Rd, Melbourne — parking is available at the Zoo trailhead.
Melbourne Causeway — Indialantic
Want some hill work? The causeways are basically the only hill workouts available in Brevard County. Beautiful view of the Indian River with a breeze most of the time. The brackish water below means a diverse mix of marine life — stingrays, dolphins, and more are common sightings. Join us Tuesday nights at 6:30 PM for our group run — meet at Hell ‘n Blazes Brewing Company in downtown Melbourne. Turn left on Melbourne Causeway while heading south on US1. Turn right into Front Street Park approximately half a mile after turning onto the causeway. Lots of parking and a short walk up to the causeway.
Eau Gallie Causeway — Melbourne
Similar to the Melbourne Causeway in character and distance, the Eau Gallie Causeway offers the same hill opportunities and beautiful Indian River views. Join us Wednesday mornings at 6:00 AM for our group run — meet at the Eau Gallie Public Library at 1521 Pineapple Ave, Melbourne. Light food and coffee provided on the third Wednesday of every month.
Rockledge Drive — Rockledge
Beautiful scenic course along the Indian River and the route of the Space Coast Marathon. Starting in Cocoa Village at Riverfront Park, head south along Rockledge Drive for 6 miles to US1 and back for a 12 mile course. Cocoa Village is located on the south side of State Road 520 (King Street) on the west side of the Hubert Humphrey Bridge.
Patrick Air Force Base — Satellite Beach
On the beach — great workout especially at low tide. Beautiful early morning runs when the sun is just rising over the Atlantic. Head east on Pineda Causeway to A1A. Turn north on A1A. There are several parks along A1A with lots of parking.
Turkey Creek Sanctuary — Palm Bay
Off-road trails with a 2 mile loop on the nature trail. From US1, turn west on Port Malabar Blvd, go 2 miles and turn left at the Turkey Creek sign at the Palm Bay Community Center.
