SPACE RACE 3K
One Small Step to Build a Stronger Community!
The Space Race is 3K walk/run throughout Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex that benefits United Way of Brevard. The walk/run journeys participants through the historic Rocket Garden featuring eight authentic rockets, the booster stack that graces the entryway to Space Shuttle Atlantis® and to Heroes & Legends featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame®.
Winners in each category will receive their award from a veteran NASA astronaut. After the race, enjoy a beer or wine in the Rocket Garden at the after-race party.
This family-friendly event is open to guests of runners for a suggested donation of $5 to the United Way.

Presented by veteran NASA Astronaut. Top 3 Male and Female Age Group awards. There are no finisher medals.
Only pre-registered participants that complete the registration and payment process by January 4, 2018 are guaranteed a complimentary race shirt. Those participants who have pre-registered by December 22, 2018 will be first to receive their shirt and preferred size.
Complimentary parking is available in parking lots 4 and 5 beginning at 5:00 PM.
Proceeds will benefit the United Way of Brevard. More than 82,000 people live in poverty in Brevard, experiencing challenges with hunger, homelessness, domestic violence and health. United Way knows that prevention is key! They leverage resources and partnerships to improve the efficiency and capacity of services in our region. These services create measurable impact in our communities.
TIMING & SCORING & AWARDS
All participants will be chip timed by the Running Zone. Scoring for the 3K race will be determined by age groups.
Awards for the 3K race will be determined by the following age groups 14 & under, 15-19,20-24,25-29,30-34,35-39,40-44,45-49,50-54,55-59,60-54,65-69,70-74,75 & Over
Kennedy Space Center is protected as a federal government facility. For the safety of visitors and employees, the following items are not permitted at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex:
- Firearms of any type, including those belonging to off-duty law enforcement
- Ammunition of any type
- Pepper or Mace sprays
- Knives of any type, including any item with a blade
- Glass containers
- Alcoholic beverages
Additionally, large coolers, luggage and other large bags are not permitted through the front gate. Be prepared: all bags, backpacks and other items may be opened and inspected at the discretion of security officers. If any of the above items are discovered, you will be asked to return them to your vehicle. If you choose not to return the items to your vehicle, you must surrender them to a security officer. Surrendered items will not be returned to you. All visitors must pass through a metal-detecting magnetometer screening device.
When and where does the race take place?
Friday, January 18, 2019 at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. The 3K race starts at 7:30 PM.
How long is the course?
3K (approx 1.86 mile) run/walk course.
How will I be timed?
There will be a clock and chip timing at the finish line to view your time.
When and where do I pick up my registration materials?
Packet pickup for those pre-registered will take place on race day from 5:00 PM – 7:15 PM on Friday, January 18, 2019. Registration on race day starts at 5:00 PM for all participants not pre-registered.
Who gets a shirt?

What if I need help along the way?
Qualified emergency medical professionals are available to provide assistance at the start/finish lines.
Can I participate in the event with my dog?
Sorry, as much as we love our pets too, the safety of participants is our main concern. Therefore, we do not allow pets on the course.
I will be out of town on race day and not able to participate. Can I get my money returned?
We appreciate your race registration. As the race brochure states, we are unable to issue refunds. .
What if there is a rocket launch the day of the race?
Kennedy Space Center is a working space flight facility and as a result, events are subject to change without advance notice. In the event of a scheduled rocket launch at a time that would conflict with the Space Race, communication on potential re-scheduling of the race will be provided to registered participants as soon as available.
Will the race be held if it’s raining?
The race is a “rain or shine” event. All participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, such as in a rain coat or hat. Umbrellas can pose a safety hazard to others and are not permitted.
Can I transfer my entry to someone else?
We have a strict NO TRANSFER policy.
